Parkstone Grammar School Ofsted Report![]()
and School Profile![]()
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Parkstone Grammar School web site. We hope that this will give you a flavour of life at this forward-looking school where we combine traditional values with a progressive curriculum.
Parkstone Grammar School's reputation for academic excellence is well known and we aim to develop in girls a love for learning and a desire to achieve the best. However we do not only focus on academic achievement. We place a high value on courtesy and consideration for others. We help the girls to develop self-discipline, a sense of self-worth, independence of thought and confidence in expressing themselves. We encourage participation in a wide range of activities outside the classroom and our music, sport, art and drama give the girls tremendous opportunities to explore and extend their talents, often with national recognition. We hope that every girl will enjoy the experience of being a member of our school community.
Parkstone is a six-form entry selective school with 1005 students from 12-18 of whom 300 are in the Sixth Form. We are very popular and heavily oversubscribed and although most of our girls live in the Borough of Poole, many come from neighboring authorities eg Dorset and Bournemouth. We believe our popularity can be attributed to a positive school ethos, high standards, excellent examination results, high quality teaching and a caring and friendly approach.
We became a Beacon School in September 2002 and became involved in a number of activities with local schools supporting work in a range of different departments from environmental work in Science to puppet making in Art and English.
Designation as a Science Specialist College took place in September 2003 and this marked a really exciting point in the life of the school. Our new status helped us to further improve our facilities and the educational experience we offer not only to our students but to the wider community. April 2008 saw another exciting milestone when we took on a second specialism in Modern Foreign Languages.
Our website and prospectus tell you a great deal about us but there is no substitute for a personal visit. You are warmly invited to come and visit us to see the school at work. I hope you find our website interesting and informative and that it will prompt you to want to see more!
